Consultation

Set up properly once, so you stop needing me.

Most rooms do not need a production company. They need somebody who has spent six years behind a desk to spend a day telling them the truth about their space, their gear and the way they have been working.

Four things I can fix.

Take one of them or all four. Most people start with the room and find the rest follows from it.

01

The room

What your space is doing to your sound, and what to do about it without rebuilding anything.

  • Where the problems actually are
  • Treatment that earns its place, not foam on a wall
  • Where to put the mic, the desk and the people
  • What to fix first when the budget is real

02

The gear

An honest list of what to buy, what to keep, and what somebody sold you that you did not need.

  • Specified against what you make, not a wishlist
  • What your existing kit can still do
  • A signal chain that will not fight you
  • No affiliate links, no kickbacks, no brand loyalty

03

The setup

Podcast rooms, streaming desks, small studios and conference spaces, built and tested with you in the room.

  • Wired, levelled and labelled
  • Tested with real voices, not a tone
  • Presets and a starting point that works
  • Written down so it survives you being away

04

Your people

Training whoever has to press record when you are not there, until they have stopped being nervous about it.

  • Run through it on your own equipment
  • What to do when it goes wrong mid-session
  • A one page sheet they will actually use
  • A number they can call afterwards

Why this one is different

I am not trying to become your production company.

The other two things I do end with me holding a camera. This one ends with me leaving. If a day of consultation means you never need to hire me for a shoot, that is the job working, not the job failing.

Six years as a recording and mixing engineer, still resident at The SoundLab Recording Studios in Providence. That is where this comes from. Most people selling gear advice have never had to make a difficult room work on a deadline, with somebody paying for every hour it takes.

How it goes.

No price list, because no two rooms are the same problem. You get a number once I know what I am looking at.

Step oneYou tell me what the room is for and what is going wrong in it.
Step twoI come and listen to it, or you send me what you already have.
Step threeA written plan, in order, with what each part costs.
Step fourI set it up and show your people, or you take the plan and run it yourself.

How the money works

Nothing complicated, and nothing hidden.

The depositHalf up front. That is what holds the date, and it is the only thing that does.
The balanceThe other half when the work lands in your hands, not before.
The numberOne figure, agreed in writing before anyone books anything out.
No surprisesTravel inside New England is in the number. There is no second invoice.

Tell me about the room.

Photos help. A voice note recorded standing in the middle of it helps more.

Goes straight to my inbox. I answer the same day.

Got it.

I will come back to you today, with questions first if I have them.
